Entity level identifiers
한 entry 안의 entity들은 다음 나열된 것들 중 하나이다.

Polymer
주로 펩타이드 또는 핵산이 여러 개 연결된 macromolecule 이다.
e.g. polypeptide, polydeoxyribonucleotide, polyribonucleotide
Branched polymer 형태도 있다. 예를 들어, oligosaccharide 가 있다.

Non-polymer
Polymer 형태가 아닌 ligand, inhibitor, individual residue 등이다.

Complex small molecules
Macromolecule과 비슷한 구성이지만 작은 peptide-like inhibitor/antibiotics 등이다. Biologically Interesting molecule Reference Dictionary (BIRD) 라고도 불린다.
각 entity에 대해 numeric ID 이외에, (poly)peptide가 UniProt에 mapping 되어있는 경우, UniProt Accession Code도 부여된다. Gene sequence가 GenBank에 mapping 되어 있는 경우, GenBank Accession Code도 부여된다.
Non-polymer가 Chemical component reference dictionary에 mapping된 경우, Chemical ID도 부여된다. 만약 BIRD에 해당하면 BIRD ID가 부여된다.
